Some Important Tips On Available Manufactured Home Kitchen Cabinet Options

When remodeling your manufactured home, good kitchen cabinets can be one of the biggest expenses, accounting for up to forty percent of the budget in certain instances. Not only do these units set the stage for your kitchen, but due to their relative durability, they tend to last for a very long time as well. Cabinet styles which are more streamlined and less fussy such as the square corners and clean lines of shaker cabinetry have grown in popularity over the years. Previously, dovetail joints inside the drawers was all one needed to easily distinguish between high end and low end cabinets. This currently doesn’t hold true as many manufacturers are now offering these features on even low end lines. Here are some factors that you need to take into consideration when shopping for your kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets are available in three levels of design and price. Stock cabinets come in standard shapes and sizes and are typically available to take home from the store the same day. Even though the pricing is usually quite fair, the sizes and styles available are usually quite limited. Semi-custom cabinets are built after you order them. This flexibility makes it easier for you to design a kitchen that fits your unique requirements. They are tad more expensive and require longer lead time for delivery. Custom cabinets on the other hand are hand –made to fit virtually any standard you may require. They are the most expensive of the three types and their pricing does vary widely because of options, materials and size.

When choosing your cabinet, you need to pick the most appropriate style. There are two main styles, frameless and framed. Frameless cabinets don’t have a face frame, the doors and drawers attach directly to the cabinet box, giving the unit a more contemporary look and feel. The lack of face frame though does compromise rigidity. The framed units on the other hand are made of a box and frame to which the drawers and doors attach. Most manufacturers do compensate for the lack of rigidity in the frameless style by using a thicker box, usually opting for 3/4 inch plywood instead of the popular 1/2 inch particleboard.

Always pay close attention on the features offered by the unit. Even though these features may at times affect the price point quite significantly, the difference in functionality can be quite remarkable as well. Always opt for useful features such as built-in charge station, pull-out trash can etc. if you have difficulty bending then you can have a raised dishwasher cabinetry that brings the unit to a more comfortable level. You can also opt for pull-down shelves and drawer organizers, which place glassware, pans, pots and dishes at a comfortable level for easy reach. Having lowered cabinetry for microwaves and ovens puts hot food at a more manageable level, thereby reducing the risk of spills and burns.

For doors, look for a solid wood frame surrounding plywood or solid wood panels for long term durability. Drawers that are well built are critical because drawers tend to be used the most. Good drawers should have a plywood bottom that fits groves on 4 sides, dovetail joinery and solid wood sides. Whenever possible, steer clear of stapled particleboard. Always keep in mind that full-extension drawer guides are better than under-mounted double roller or integrated side rail designs. Whenever possible, always opt for units that have a soft close feature that stops drawers from slamming shut.
